FIAA HAMILTON PRESENTS A HALLOWEEN HORROR WITH THE NEW VIDEO FOR ‘BOY LIKE YOU’
“Talented rising star.” – Wonderland
“Faultless genre-blending approach and emotionally rich songwriting.” – FAULT
Fiaa Hamilton is in the middle of her ascension from TikTik LIVE’s Breakthrough Star award winner to next up pop sensation. Now her storytelling alt-pop takes a darker turn with the single ‘Boy Like You’, accompanied by a horror-tinged music video which is perfectly timed after Halloween last week.
As one fan stated on socials after seeing a teaser, ‘Boy Like You’ is Fiaa’s “sexiest and scariest song yet.” And that’s entirely correct, it’s don’t-get-mad get-even vibe summarised by Fiaa’s sweetly sinister voice intoning, “God get me through this ‘cuz im acting toxic babe.” The music sees Fiaa taking a deep dive into the dark pop world with foreboding gothic synths and ominous vocoder vocal effects building towards a vehement declaration: this is one woman that you don’t want to mess with.
The video takes that narrative several steps further into the darkness. The first shot is of Fiaa exuding femme fatale evil elegance as her mugshot is taken after being arrested: a mix of beauty and brutality that brings to mind ‘Gone Girl’ vibes. It then cuts back to Fiaa disposing of the body of the man who wronged her, her face and car splattered with blood while the sun-kissed religious icons of Greece reflect her desperate prayer.
Fiaa says, “‘Boy Like You’ was written about a toxic relationship I was in. I had totally lost myself, but it was one of the biggest of my life – sometimes life’s biggest disasters turn into a miracle. I wanted to take the listener to a different place with me and I made sure the visuals match this. It’s still heavily pop but it takes a unique twist with a dark alternative breakdown.”
Fiaa wrote ‘Boy Like This’ with Jordan Cosmo (CHINCHILLA) and George Fraser.
Fiaa’s first two singles, ‘Love War’ and ‘Rivers In The Night’, have both elevated her rising star status. ‘Love War’ hit #8 on TikTok’s Pop Hits chart, and both songs have earned BBC Introducing airplay and tastemaker tips spanning Wonderland, Fault, Music Talkers, TotalNtertainment and Vent. Those songs have added another layer of star quality to an artist who has also been named as one of just two musicians on the UK’s Top 20 TikTok LIVE creators at the Community Fest.
Fiaa is the storytelling artist and her commitment to capturing a moment saw her write, record and release ‘Rivers In The Night’ over the course of a week – a rapid turnaround that’s all the more remarkable given that she filmed and edited a music video in Nashville in that same timeframe. But she has always been dedicated to music since she discovered that it offered her an escape from a childhood in the foster care system. She returned to that environment to give something back by starting music projects for children, while also taking her own first career steps at The Academy of Contemporary Music and as part of a girl band who made some serious headway.
When that didn’t work out it could’ve been the end of Fiaa’s story. But during a chance encounter with Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, her friend gave him the best pitch ever for Fiaa’s talents, leading them to collaborate on the charity single ‘One Day’. That was the spark that saw her step up – and she’s not one to waste an opportunity.
