The Orielles – announce details of competition to remix one of their tracks and share Wrongtom remixes

The Orielles have today announced details of a competition offering fans a chance to remix ‘Disco Volador’ album track ‘Euro Borealis’. Talking about the competition, the band said:

We thought that a remix competition would be a great idea during these weird self-isolation times. Being big fans of doing remixes ourselves, as well as listening to and DJing remixes, encouraging you guys to get creative and having access to our album in a unique way was something we liked the idea of. We’re buzzing to see what you aspiring astral travellers come up with! Boogie to space!

The music files needed to remix the track, and details of where to send the finished remix can be found via the following link from 10am Thursday 9th April:

The competition deadline is April 23rd and the winner will have their remix pressed on a one off dub-plate and receive a copy of ‘Disco Volador’ on vinyl and an Orielles t-shirt.

Additionally they have shared the dubbed-out Wrongtom remixes of Space Samba (Disco Volador Theme).

Talking about the remix, Wrongtom said:

I was already a fan of The Orielles’ mish-mash of pyschedelic post-punk-pop, so when I heard the mutant disco of Space Samba, I knew I had to get my dubby mitts on it.

The original is taken form their stunning second album, Disco Volador which was released on Heavenly Recordings on Friday 28th February 2020.

The follow up to their much-acclaimed 2018 debut Silver Dollar Moment, the band announced the album in October of last year with its opening track, Come On Down On Jupiter.

Finally, the band have also put together a playlist of a number of their favourite remixes which can be heard here:

Disco Volador sees the 4-piece push their sonic horizon to its outer limits as astral travellers, hitching a ride on the melodic skyway to evade the space-time continuum through a sharp collection of progressive strato-pop symphonies.

Voyaging through cinematic samba, 70s disco, deep funk boogies, danceable grooves and even tripping on 90s acid house, Disco Volador sees The Orielles spinning into a higher zero-gravity orbit. Written and recorded in just 12 months, it captures the warp-speed momentum of their post-Silver Dollar Moment debut album success; an unforgettable summer touring, playing festivals like Green Man and bluedot, Disco Volador’slibrary catalogue vibes stem from a band lapping up and widening their pool of musical discovery whether nodding to Italian film score maestros Sandro Brugnolini and Piero Umiliani, or the Middle Eastern tones of Khruangbin and Altin Gün.

Finally, the band recently completed a U.K. tour culminating in a sold-out show at London’s Electric Ballroom

Recent praise for Disco Volador:

The Orielles continue to carve out a sonic universe entirely of their own – 4/5 Q

A bountiful next step for a band with a distinct voice – 4/5 DORK

The Orielles are: Esmé Dee Hand Halford (bass & vocals), Sid Dee Hand Halford (drums & vocals), Henry Carlyle Wade (guitar) and Alex Stephens(keyboards).
