CHRIS GORDON from BABY CHAOS said, “We wanted to set up a kind of unique live filming experience that was far removed from the usual ‘band faces audience’ scenario. Something that created an intimacy with the audience and let them into the performance in a different way”.

Whilst a band traditionally performs on stage facing the audience, for this event the band set up on the floor, facing each other. This enabled the invited audience to rub shoulders with the band while they performed.

BABY CHAOS collaborated with students and staff from three different departments at West College Scotland. Students from the video production, audio engineering and music management courses were onsite to set up and operate all the equipment. This provided valuable hands-on experience of what it’s like to work on this type of production.

The challenges of performing and filming in a circular format were considerable. However, the band’s manager Nic Gordon worked closely with each of the departments to ensure that everything worked out. In addition to being filmed with normal video cameras, a 360-degree camera was also used to film the event, which captured the all-round performance of the band as well as the setting.

A selection of songs from the live performance will be shown on the big screen at Everyman Cinema, and Virtual Reality headsets will be available so that each of the viewers can put themselves right in the middle of the stage and experience the gig from any angle of choice.

Oran Mor in the West End of Glasgow proved a remarkable space to perform in. With its distinctive architecture and stunning murals, it provided a spectacular backdrop for the recording. A total of ten cameras were used for the filming, alongside a live audio mix and multi-track audio recording.

IN ADDITION TO WATCHING SOME OF THE LIVE PERFORMANCE, THE EVENT WILL ALSO PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY TO INTERVIEW THE BAND IN FRONT OF THE BIG SCREEN.
