CONCERT REVIEW : Australian Pink Floyd, OVO Hydro, Glasgow, November 25th 2022

Australian Pink Floyd, Glasgow Hydro, November 25th 2022

The Australian Pink Floyd roadshow is back in town, and the Glasgow audience have another prog rock treat in store.  Having such a huge catalogue of work to choose from, all the bases are covered tonight, from early album tracks, to big anthems.  The music of Pink Floyd is as popular as ever, and this can be seen as the Hydro is well filled, a packed audience ready and waiting for the band to take to the stage.

And just after 8pm the band arrive, the lights go down and the gradually increasing volume opening Shine On You Crazy Diamond from Wish You Were Here has the crowd revved up.  Learning to Fly came next followed a dip into Dark Side Of The Moon, with Time, Breathe, The Great Gig In The Sky with terrific vocals from the ladies on backing duties and Money before the first half of the show is closed with the bands only number 1 single, Another Brick In The Wall.  The huge inflatable Schoolmaster towers over the crowd, you can almost hear it screaming STAND STILL LADDIE!!!

The stage is set with amazing colours, lights and lasers and other inflatable props, many used by the original band back in the day and loaned to the Aussie lads, an acknowledgment of how accurate and respected they are.

Back to part two of the show.  In The Flesh, See Emily Play, The Pink Floyd’s debut single followed by Pigs.  The highlight of the evening for me, Wish You Were Here was next and thousands of voices joined in with the backing vocals.  An absolutely magnificent piece of music, admirably reproduced by the band on stage, and sung along to by every voice on every seat in the vast arena.  Very much a ‘hairs on the back of your neck’ moment.  One Of These Days and Run Like Hell close the second part.

After a short interval, the band return for 1 last song in the encore, from The Wall, Comfortably Numb, perfectly played by all members of the band which results in another mass karaoke from the Glasgow audience.

This was again a tremendous evening of Pink Floyd music.  The attention to detail is incredible, at times if you closed your eyes you could easily be listening to the real thing.  If youre a fan of the band, never mind this ‘tribute’ nonsense.  Get along and see them, it really is the closest you’ll get to the real thing.
