Jim Bob has returned to Glasgow, performing at Saint Luke’s near the iconic Barrowland, where he had a memorable night on the 30 Something Tour in 1991. Some fans at Saint Luke’s tonight were sporting 30 Something t-shirts. Two sets divide the evening: a brief acoustic performance precedes a full-band show. The venue was filled with a fantastic atmosphere as everyone eagerly awaited Jim Bob’s night of excellent music and musical nostalgia.
The full band kicked off the set with a fantastic rendition of The Boomtown Rats’ hit “I Don’t Like Mondays,” followed by the crowd-pleaser “Jo’s Got Paper Cuts,” which had the audience at Saint Luke’s singing along. Jim Bob then charmed them with the Carter USM classic “Let’s Get Tattoos.” The night featured beloved songs from both Jim Bob’s bands and solo work, leaving fans thrilled and making it a memorable evening for all.
The set continued with Carter USM’s “Stuff the Jubilee,” followed by “Sebastian’s Gone on a Ridealong.” As Jim interacted with them, the audience enthusiastically sang along, joking about the balcony area not being suitable for the older crowd. He entertained the audience with chat and beloved songs, including a rendition of Dexy’s Midnight Runners’ “Geno” and Carter’s “Lean On Me I Won’t Fall Over” and “Do Re Me, So Far So Good,” prompting the crowd to sing along loudly.
At the end of the set, Jim Bob pleased the audience with songs like “The Prince of Wales,” “The Only Looney Left in Town,” and “The Music That Nobody Likes,” before closing with a cover of Mitch Leigh’s “The Impossible Dream.” The band took a break but returned for a two-song encore, starting with the fan- favourite from the 30 Something album, “Bloodsport for All,” that got the crowd excited. Jim thanked the audience and ended the encores with one of his solo hits, “Touchy Feely.” It was a night to remember, with music spanning several decades from Jim Bob in various forms.
