KAISER CHIEFS – OVO Hydro Glasgow 11th November 2022

An unusual mild night in Glasgow, the queues outside the venue are filled with fans making their way into the arena. Nice buzz outside as the atmosphere grows ahead of the show with local band the Fratellis supporting the Kaiser Chiefs. The Night was set, an amazing line up within Glasgow’s top venue the OVO Hydro.

As the lights went down, the figures of Mince, Barry and Jon Fratellis took to the stage, the noise level within the venue turned up a few levels, the band complete with backing vocals and small brass section entertained the hometown fans to an animating set from the off,  opening with Henrietta before playing the unofficial Scotland Football team anthem Yes Sir I Can Boogie that had the fans in the venue going wild singing along and dancing with the music from the band.

The Fratellis are on top form now, the set featured classic songs from their back catalogue including Creepin’ Up the Backstairs, Too Much Wine and Ole Black ‘n’ Blue Eyes before playing their anthem that had the hydro up on their feet dancing and singing along to the epic Chelsea Dagger. The delight on the faces of the Glasgow crowd singing and dancing along to the classic was magical. The band closed their set with the Dion Cover of Runaround Sue before saying goodbye to their hometown fans old and new.

It was time for Ricky Wilson and the Kaiser Chiefs to take to the stage, the arena was buzzing with excitement of seeing the band perform in Glasgow. As the band took to the stage the road crew started to move pieces of old garage doors from the stage that had been on display all evening, displaying works of Kaiser Chiefs hits. As the intro music finished the band members continued with Born to Be A Dancer as Ricky Wilson appear in front of the LED screen projecting the moon. The first sighting of him had the Glasgow crowd raising the roof. Towards the end of the song, he made his way down to the front of the stage adjusting the monitors to create a step for him to stand on he delivered a powerful version of Never Miss A beat that had the Hydro crowd in full voice.

The band featuring Andrew White, Simon Rix, Nick Baines, and Vijay Mistry were really enjoying the set as the Glasgow crowd showed their support with one massive sing a long as the band performed Na Na Na Na Naa, Modern Way, and a beautiful acoustic version of Coming Home. Ricky bouncing around the stage was on top form taking in the OVO Hydro crowd. Tonight, had a special feeling , and the big hits and sing a long was about to raise the roof off the Hydro as the band performed Everyday I Love You Less and Less, and Ruby, before closing the set with the epic I Predict a Riot, ending with The Angry Mob. The band waived to their Scottish fans before leaving the stage for a short and well-deserved break.

The band returned to a hero’s welcome, taking a bow to thank the fans, before performing a beautiful version of People Know How to Love One Another, leaving Glasgow wanting more with the powerful Oh My God had the entire vibrating between the music from the band and the noise from the OVO Hydro crowd. Leaving the stage, they knew they had left a lasting memory inside the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, a powerful set filled with the magical music of the Kaiser Chiefs.
