COSMIC CROONER RELEASES SUMPTUOUS, STRING-SOAKED
NEW SINGLE “NEVER WEAR YOUR OWN MERCH”
+ UK TOUR SUPPORTING MATTIEL IN DECEMBER
Upcoming musician Cosmic Crooner has today released his string-soaked, retro-modern new single “Never Wear Your Own Merch” plus the accompanying
The enigmatic Amsterdam-based artist will also support Mattiel on tour in the UK in December 2024, including a London show at Rich Mix on December 7.
Inspired by the golden age of bossa nova, the allure of classic cinema and progressive soul music from the late ‘60s and ‘70s, “Never Wear Your Own Merch” is a sumptuous track that should appeal to fans of Last Shadow Puppets, latter-period Arctic Monkeys and Clairo’s recent album ‘Charm’. The intricate string arrangements are by Trey Pollard (Faye Webster, Foxygen) and the track was mastered at Metropolis by Matt Colton (Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, Muse).
“Never Wear Your Own Merch”’ is accompanied by a music video shot entirely on 16mm film and directed by Cosmic Crooner himself. “After falling in love again with Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Goin’ On’ I wanted to write a song inspired by this monumental record,” says Cosmic Crooner, aka Joep Meyer of the track. “The video was influenced by classic French cinema – La Piscine, Plein Soleil and Le Mepris to name a few – and shot in southern Spain. I lived in that area for a while and ever since it has been an enormous inspiration for writing music.”
Cosmic Crooner released his acclaimed debut album ‘The Perks Of Being A Hypocrite’ last year and has toured with Temples, Timber Timbre and Tempesst, building a cult following across Europe. Stand by for news of more music and shows soon from Cosmic Crooner.
