COSMIC CROONER RELEASES CINEMATIC, STRING-SOAKED NEW SINGLE “SWIMMING POOL” TODAY
“Cosmic Crooner draws elegantly from a colourful yet sepia-tinged musical history
whilst offering his unique perspective on the world” (God Is In The TV)
“Cosmic Crooner’s allure lies in his ability to straddle eras without losing his footing. The elusive European artist evokes a bygone sophistication
while sidestepping nostalgia, creating something that feels timeless yet entirely present” (Complete Music Update)
Cosmic Crooner has today released his gorgeous, string-soaked new single “Swimming Pool”. Inspired by the classic 1969 film ‘La Piscine’ starring Alain Delon and Jane Birkin, “Swimming Pool” drips with soulful grooves and cinematic strings, offering a seductive soundtrack for dreamers caught between yesterday and today.
“Swimming Pool” was recorded live, with the string arrangement by Trey Pollard (Faye Webster, Foxygen) added later. “I love the orchestration on Harry Nilsson’s album A Little Touch Of Schmilsson In The Night,” explains Cosmic Crooner. “I wanted the sound of a big orchestra, and Trey was amazing at bringing my dream arrangements to life.”
The video for “Swimming Pool” was shot on 16mm film and directed by the Crooner himself. In this video he finally reaches ‘Crooners Bay’, the mythical home for crooners first glimpsed in the video for previous single “Never Wear Your Own Merch”.
Both videos, plus the promo for recent single “Mosquito In The Photo Booth”, were shot in southern Spain. “When we arrived there I had goosebumps,” recalls Cosmic Crooner. “It was so special and everyone was super helpful. I had a plan of how the videos would look, but of course you don’t know what the reality will be like when you’re scouting for locations on Google Maps.”
Cosmic Crooner’s music should appeal to fans of David Axelrod, Serge Gainsbourg, and the golden age of bossa nova, and more contemporary artists like Last Shadow Puppets, latter-period Arctic Monkeys and Clairo’s recent album ‘Charm’. Based in Amsterdam, he released his acclaimed debut album ‘The Perks of Being A Hypocrite’ in 2023 and has toured with Temples, Timber Timbre, Tempesst and most recently Mattiel, building a cult following across Europe.
