NEW SINGLE : Manchester Four-Piece MCRAE Return With PLANETVPLANET Their Poppiest Single to Date

A four-piece who eschew swaggering indie-boy Oasis imitations in favour of something slightly subtler and more intelligent” – When the Horn Blows

Though the last two years have taken their toll on just about everybody, Manchester four-piece MCRAE are kickstarting 2022 having left behind the cynicism of their previous single ‘How To Start A Fire’ and replaced it with both a sense of optimism and acceptance on their new single ‘planetvplanet’.

Arriving on a bed of button-bright synths, the release marks MCRAE’s full transition into indie-pop territory. Three and half minutes of icy electronics and cathartic lyricism, ‘planetvplanet’ takes the trials and tribulations of the last two years, both personal and universal, and views them through a surprisingly optimistic lens, creating something that’s as upbeat as it is cathartic.

“‘planetvplanet’ is our mental health ballad” frontman Jake McRae explains. “We wrote this song from the perspective of some of our darker days and tried to turn it into something positive. Touching on personal mental health within the band throughout the verses and quoting some words of advice we’ve received in the chorus. Aidan had a solid idea for instrumentation already and we each built up our parts. The lyrics came easily for me and the last line ‘it’s not your fault it’s just the way the world is today’ were some kind words we received as another gig was postponed.”

It’s been a difficult time, particularly for those working in bands and across the music industry, but with light gradually appearing at the end of the tunnel, and the upbeat optimism of ‘band’s like MCRAE proving it’s can’t all be doom and gloom, things are only going to get better.
