Scottish alt-pop trio racecar share new single Lay Me Down
Out now, the new single ushers in spring with catchy, sunshine-drenched lyrics and playful, uplifting melodies
East Lothian-based alt-pop trio racecar have today 22 March shared their playful and uplifting new single Lay Me Down. Self-released, to celebrate the track they perform this evening at The Argyle & Cellar Bar in Edinburgh.
Showcasing the band’s unique blend of indie-pop, electronic elements, funk and jazz, the new single combines beautifully gentle vocals and catchy lyrics with an uplifting sound that will make listeners dream of “long days and bright skies” as spring gives way to summer sunshine.
Discussing the writing process and inspiration behind Lay Me Down, the band said: “This song is about the desire to hasten change – the rush to grow up, leave your home, your friends, family, etc – and reflects on adolescence with a little rose tint of nostalgia”.
The latest release from their forthcoming second album, Pink Car, Lay Me Down follows an impressive run of pop-perfect songwriting from the band, including their genre-bending debut album, Orange Car, which was released in June 2022, and boasted intricate melodies and soul-stirring lyricism for a unique, eclectic sound.
Comprising childhood friends Izzy Flower, Robin Brill and Calum Mason, racecar was formed in 2018 when the band began tentatively rehearsing demos. In 2021, an intensive two week recording session in Robin’s home studio led to the blue-skied soundscape of Orange Car, and the band have since gone from strength to strength, captivating listeners with their “creatively kaleidoscopic” material.
At the single launch on March 22, the band will perform with a new and extended live band, giving fans a sneak peek at previously unheard material. Limited tickets available here
