ERRANT MEDIA presents STEPHEN MCLAREN

Taken from the forthcoming politically-charged dream-pop album “They Don’t Put Any Money in your Pocket” is the new single from Edinburgh’s dreampop troubadour Stephen McLaren “Put Me On The Television” which follows on from his critically acclaimed debut solo album, “We Used To Go Raving”

McLaren, once the charismatic, dancing pianist front of dream-pop trio, Collar Up, is now an established solo artist writing politically-charged songs from his home in Edinburgh’s culturally-vibrant Leith area. Since 2017, he has wowed raucous live audiences, with a show packed with sense-feeding virtuosic piano, glorious vocal power, and dreamy ethereal soundscapes. His lyrics, often furious, sometimes sardonic, and occasionally funny, remind the listener that this is a man who understands the art of song-writing, with style complimenting substance, rather than masking a lack of it.

“We Used To Go Raving” was a good album, but “They Don’t Put Any Money In Your Pocket” denotes significant progression, with one Scottish music writer already calling the demo “a masterpiece”. From the eruption of “In Summers Hands”, through the breakdown of “Can’t Get To Sleep”, and crescendoing with the title track right at the end, there is not one filler song on this album, and listening to it as a whole piece of work will reap a rich musical harvest for the listener.

McLaren is now ready, and, with 3 singles planned for video release in 2021 in the lead up to the release, Errant Media are delighted to oblige. Expect to be affected and impressed in equal measure: “They Don’t Put Any Money In Your Pocket”, when it arrives, will not disappoint.
