Scottish singer and multi-instrumentalist Tamzene today releases rousing new single ‘Dance With You Again’.
The beautiful track sees her longing to be reunited with her mother who lives in Jamaica, and was written alongside producer Tobie Tripp [Stormzy, Joy Crookes]. Meandering harmonies, soft synths and sunny piano lines entwine to provide the perfect backdrop to Tamzene’s disarmingly emotive vocal. ‘Dance With You Again’ heralds the announcement of her debut EP ‘Details’, which will be released on May 20th via EMI Records.
Tamzene shares, “This song came about because I had opened up to Tobie about missing my mother (songwriting is wonderful therapy), and how much I used to love dancing with her. She taught Salsa for many years when I was growing up, and I was her demo partner at classes, festivals, and parties from as young as eight years old. 2020 was especially hard as I was unable to fly over to Jamaica to see her. In short, it’s about longing to be with someone you love again, and how that really can make you wish away the days.”
The six track EP ‘Details’ includes recent singles Cut Me Out Your Photos, a stunning nostalgia-tinged ode to heartbreak and loneliness, and Called You Out, which was penned over Zoom in the summer of 2020 against a backdrop of racial injustice and worldwide protest. Both tracks were released alongside stunning live performance videos that perfectly capture Tamzene’s innate talent for performance. Her total combined streams are now eclipsing the three million mark, which further demonstrates the traction this promising artist is picking up.
Tamzene spent years busking contemporary pop songs which taught her invaluable songwriting skills. Taking cues from pop contemporaries such as Adele and Alicia Keys as much as the classic voices of Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin, her vocal is bold and innately emotive, and truly enraptures any audience.
As well as having graced the stages of lauded festivals such as Latitude, TRNSMT, Eurosonic Noorderslag and Reeperbahn, Tamzene has recently played at King’s Cross’ Lafayette and Hackney’s Earth, and the summer will see her play many more festivals such as Bestival, Boardmasters, Brixton’s Cross The Tracks, and Brighton’s Great Escape (Friday 13th May at the Latest Music Bar, 9:15PM).
