Today, De Staat shares the music video for “Who’s Gonna Be The GOAT?”
The song is part of the bundled release of the project (red), (yellow), (blue). As with the previously released music videos Numbers Up, What Goes, Let Go, Look At Me and One Day, band frontman Torre Florim is once again the creative brain behind the clip and its direction.
Who’s Gonna Be The GOAT? falls under the yellow songs. The song is a reaction to the people who keep telling you to aim to be number one. To be the best. To work hard. Get up early. Exercise every day. Eat proteins, ditch sugar. To become the Greatest Of All Time. Everybody celebrates the GOATS. With “Who’s Gonna Be The GOAT?” De Staat celebrate the people who look at the GOATS and think, “good for you, but I’m not going to do that. Too much work. I am going to give up early and enjoy myself. You might look muscular, but I can eat potato chips. You might have more money, but I have more time (“I’m a minute millionaire”)”.
Torre says about the clip, “I don’t think I have ever laughed harder making a video, while it simultaneously made me go completely bonkers. I’ve been sifting through hours and hours of clips of celebrities winning awards, politicians doing press conferences and athletes doing the craziest things. These people all seem to have this borderless ambition, which, at a certain point, becomes a bit scary to look at.”
At the end of 2021, De Staat kicked off a new era – one in which the band releases songs in bundles marked by three primary colors – red, yellow and blue. For now, this means no album, but an open trajectory until the band feels a chapter is ready.
