Share video for ‘Darkened Corners’, the latest track to be taken from their recent album, Tableau
 
U.K. tour announced for spring 2023 & confirmed to play next year’s SXSW festival.

The Orielles have today shared the video for ‘Darkened Corners’, the latest track to be taken from their recently released album Tableau which was released on Heavenly Recordings on 7th October.

A tempo shifting, autumnal slice of super mellow motorik pop music, the band said about ‘Darkened Corners’:
 ‘Darkened Corners’ is one of the collective favourites of the album for us. Its musical narrative best describes emotionally what creating this record felt like for us. We wanted to create this kind of Krauty, super rigid and formulaic first part where everything happens in these repeated cycles. Then as the song starts to turn darker we created this spiralling passage where you should feel like you don’t really have a sense of time of where home is moving into this intense manic phase as Sid puts it the drums try to break free from the old ways into this blissful new world.

A lot of this tune had to be thought about thoroughly, we spent hours in Sid’s living room counting beats and tried to go really heavy with motiffing and ostinato. The lyrical inspiration comes from content comes from a Lee Friedlander exhibition Ez went to whilst in Berlin.

 The track is accompanied by a stunning video co-directed by the band with regular collaborator Neeam Khan Vela. The band added:

So excited to finally make our music video debut with long-time artistic collaborator Neelam Khan Vela! The video honours Neelam’s photography work as we see through her lens and thus the video’s main character resembles a shadow in a photo. Meanwhile we are paying homage to photographer Lee Friedlander, retracing the steps of an exhibition seen in Berlin last October which inspired the lyrics for the track. As we recreate some of the iconic work of Friedlander, placing ourselves within his frames, we map the symbiosis of two photographers becoming one.

 
A genuinely contemporary record which voyages far beyond the musical limits reached on their previous albums Silver Dollar Moment (2018), Disco Volador (2020) and La Vita Olistica (2021), Tableau was co-produced in collaboration with Joel Anthony Patchett (King Krule, Tim Burgess).
 
Also, having recently played a very special shows in association with Piccadilly Records in Manchester where they performed with full orchestral backing, the band have announced details of a full U.K. headline tour next spring. The band also play 2 ‘home-coming’ shows at Hebden Bridge Trades Club just before Christmas. 
 
Additionally, the band are set to head to Austin, Texas to play next year’s SXSW festival which runs from 13th-18th March.
