At the end of 2021, Liverpool based genre bending alt-pop artist Amber Jay invited us into the latest installment of her cinematic universe with new single ‘Equal’. A track that challenged the inferior feeling that society’s version of normal can create. With a bouncy bedroom-pop synth sound that grows into dark alt-pop bliss, it highlighted a pure natural progression for this young artist, and Amber’s ability to ignore boundaries in pure non-conformist fashion to make each genre her own.

‘Equal’ gained multiple layers of support, with The Revue comparing Amber’s music to ‘FKA Twigs’ tantalizing broodiness with the edge of Eilish’s much earlier works’. Lock Magazine called it a ‘kaleidoscopic world of alt-pop’, along with CLOUT stating that she ‘continues to establish herself as a creative force with every release and shows no sign of slowing down’.

The latest look into the world of Amber Jay, sees her kicks start her 2022 by sharing the visuals for track, The video plays with gender stereotypes in a slapstick football match between the ‘Blondies’ and ‘Mullet FC.’ It’s not until an outcasted figure has the opportunity to step up, does the game start to turn around. Commenting on how the fields of life are often male dominated, while other genders struggle to even get on the scoreboard, it’s a story of perseverance and the power of the underdog.

“I just wanted to create something that was fun which had a homemade charm to it. I try not to take myself too seriously and I hope that comes across in this daft video we created. Yes, there’s a deeper meaning and message that is a real issue in the world but to have it presented in a more humorous light is really just to make a point that these stereotypes are ridiculous.” – explains Amber.

With the previous success from her debut EP last year, Amber Jay has gained support from the likes of BBC Introducing in Merseyside and Radio 1 along with tastemakers such as Earmilk, Gig Goer, Diva Magazine, Secret Meeting and more. While also securing major spots on Spotify Editorial playlists such as Salt, Fresh Finds: Pop and Rainbow UK, leading to Amber Jay’s EP gaining over 80,000 streams across all streaming platforms.

The past six months has seen Amber Jay hitting the live circuit heavily, having supported Tik Tok superstar Michael Aldag at his two sold out hometown shows at Liverpool’s Kazimier Stockroom, as well as his sold out London show at the prestigious Colours in Hoxton. Along with support slots with GIRLI, Georgia, Jess Spink and with more planned, it won’t be long until we see Amber Jay headlining her own.
