Following electrifying festival performances throughout the summer, Sister Sledge Live featuring Kathy Sledge, the iconic lead singer and signature voice of Sister Sledge’s biggest hits, has announced an intimate UK-wide theatre tour for November 2023.
Performing all the hits that made Kathy Sledge an icon, including all-time anthems such as ‘We Are Family’, ‘He’s The Greatest Dancer’, ‘Thinking Of You’, ‘Frankie’ and ‘Lost In Music’, Sister Sledge Live’s eagerly anticipated 19-date theatre tour will begin in Stockton on 1st November and end in Bath on 21st November.
This very special tour offers audiences across the country the unique opportunity to delve into the remarkable journey of Kathy Sledge. As lead singer of a truly iconic band, Kathy’s artistic triumphs include chart-topping hits, platinum albums, and successful ventures into various genres of popular music. With Kathy’s unique vocals, Sister Sledge has inspired millions of listeners across many generations.
Kathy is excited to share this dynamic production with her fans, saying, “After the joy of performing at some amazing festivals over the summer, I’m looking forward to returning to the UK for this very special tour. Backed by my truly incredible band, we’ll be performing all of Sister Sledge’s biggest hits and more, so I look forward to seeing everybody in November for what will be the biggest party in town!”
Formed in 1971, Sister Sledge honed their act around Philadelphia before signing a contract with Atco Records. At the tender age of 13, Kathy’s lead vocals on 1973 single ‘Mama Never Told Me’ became the group’s first international hit record, reaching #20 in the U.K. Their follow-up ‘Love Don’t You Go Through No Changes On Me’ became a major hit everywhere from the U.K. to Japan, earning the group a coveted Silver Award at the Tokyo Music Festival.
At 14 years old, Kathy and her sisters were invited to perform at Zaire 74, a three-day music festival that promoted the historic ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ boxing match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. “To this day, that was one of the most powerful and impactful experiences I’ve had”, she remembers fondly.
However, it was the collaboration with ground-breaking producers Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of the CHIC Organization that revolutionised Sister Sledge’s career. The release of their #1 album ‘We Are Family’ in 1979 catapulted them to international stardom, earning critical acclaim from the music press.
Rolling Stone’s Stephen Holden wrote, “‘We Are Family’, beautifully sung by Kathy Sledge, is a near perfect fusion of gospel fire and disco cool.”, while Nile Rodgers says it best himself: “Kathy has one of the most original and unique voices in pop music. Always has and always will!”
Now, Sister Sledge is ready to bring their magic to the stage once again with Sister Sledge Live featuring Kathy Sledge, an electrifying celebration of the group’s phenomenal musical journey.
